Carpet spot stain remover and tips and advice

The spots in your carpet keep coming back so you reach for your favorite carpet spot remover. It's the bottle that will remove everything under the sun, so many to choose from at your local depot store. Or maybe you found a great "recipe" online to remove stubborn stains. Maybe you have the advice passed down for years of soap and water.

It is something we see everyday in customers carpet, the dark spots that just wont go away or they disappear for a few weeks then reappear. What is the answer?

1. Do not use these over the counter products excessively, too much product will leave dirt attracting residue and your original spill will seem minor compared to the mess you may create with the soapy spot remover. If you use too much you may actually remove color from you carpet. A high P-H level can cause damage to your carpet and carpet fibers can only tolerate a certain level of abuse. Wool fibers are even less tolerant.

2. Examine your product you are using, if it claims to remove "everything," that should raise a red flag. Spots in carpet should be put into two categories, water base spill or oil base spill. Is it peanut butter or makeup? Rule of thumb, most food spills will require a water base cleaner. Makeup, oils, grease, gum, tar lotion, will require a solvent base cleaner. You should have two different spot removers in your pantry not one that fixes everything.

3. The "home recipes," found on-line can be very harmful on your carpet, high chance of creating a permanent stain, creating color loss, even delaminating the backing of your carpet creating a week spot even a hole in your carpet over time. I have seen the results of the home recipes, not once has it been good. What about using vinegar as a cleaner for carpet? Vinegar is very acidic and it can actually delaminate and weaken the glue that holds the backing of the carpet. The glue becomes brittle and over time turns to dust, now you have a loose spot in the carpet.

Chem-Dry has a product we have been selling for many years and it is by far our most popular product with our repeat clients. It is called the World Famous Spot Remover. This product is similar to our cleaning solution we use when we clean carpet. "Carbonation" think of it as a super charged club soda. No soap, no odor, neutral P-H so it is completely safe for even the most delicate fiber, and it works for all water base spills. We even recommend it for upholstery even your laundry. Also "Green" certified product by the EPA.

We also sell our World Famous Grease and Oil Remover for the oil base spots in your carpet. For pet urine odor we recommend our World Famous Pet Odor Remover designed for the fresh pet urine accidents and in between professional cleaning. Pet odor can get out of control and this product will help you win the odor battle. The best way to find non visible pet urine accidents is with a black light evaluation. We do perform this service free of charge.

Even with these great products some spots may not be removed, just depends on what it is, if your carpet has stain fighting ability with an active scotch guard protectant, it may be worn off if your carpet is several years old. We can refresh the protectant with our Stain Fighter Cleaning Package. Our products will not damage your carpet or upholstery, will not leave a dirt attracting residue and they are safe for your family and pets.
