TNT Chem-Dry Allergy Relief Nashville

How to Combat Allergy Attacks this Spring in Nashville

Nashville is on the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s Spring Allergy Capitals report as one of the most challenging places to live if you suffer from allergies, and with the brutal winter that just swept across the Midwest, allergists are predicting an especially sneezy spring. To make matters worse, the average U.S. home actually contains twice the level of air pollution as outdoors. This is in large part because indoor allergens bury themselves in places we typically don’t regularly clean — like our upholstery. Here are some easy tips to tackle that couch, and other germ magnets around the house, to reduce allergy symptoms this season.
Combat Allergies with TNT Chem-Dry
  • Vacuum: Do it regularly, with the right model. Vacuum carpets and rugs weekly with a bag vacuum, preferably one with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter, since it is more effective at trapping airborne allergens like pet dander and pollen. Traditional vacuums will just expel dust and allergens back into the room. And keep clutter at bay. Areas like closets and underneath the bed tend to attract clutter, resulting in dust bunnies.
  • Upholstered Furniture: Don’t forget to vacuum upholstery too. Most people vacuum carpets and rugs but forget about upholstery. Similar to rugs and carpets, particles like dust, dirt and allergens settle on furniture surfaces. Vacuum once every other week and get them professionally cleaned at least once a year.
  • Beds: Regularly clean bedding. Vacuum mattresses at least once a month and turn over every six months to reduce dust mites. Wash linens every two weeks in hot water over 130°F, and place dust-proof covers on pillows, mattresses and box springs. Replace padded bedding and headboards with allergen-resistant alternatives, or bedding that can be washed on a regular basis.
  • Pets: Keep them clean. Bathe pets regularly. Keep them out of the bedroom, with doors closed, to reduce their dander in the air. Even if pets are not in the room, their dander remains airborne for several hours and floats throughout the house.
  • Temperature & Humidity Levels: Set them at correct levels. Dust mites thrive in warm, humid conditions. Keep household thermostats below 70°F and humidity below 50 percent.
  • Heating & Air Conditioning Filters: Regularly check and replace them. Changing filters at regular intervals, especially after winter months, prevents dirt, dust and unhealthy particles from distributing around the house. Follow the recommended replacement timing for each filter as indicated on the package.
  • Doormats & Area Rugs: Place them in high-traffic areas. Many think that bare floors are cleaner than carpet, but dust, allergens and dirt particles settle on hard surfaces and get stirred back into the air more easily the next time there is activity in the room. Rugs placed on these surfaces act as filters, trapping these particles until it is time to vacuum.
  • Cleaning Professionals: Call them annually. Regular vacuuming does a good job of picking up dirt and dust on the surface, but there can still be a lot of bacteria and allergens trapped deep within the fibers of carpet and upholstery. The EPA recommends getting carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year, and in homes with pets or children, two to three times per year. TNT Chem-Dry is a local carpet and upholstery cleaning service, part of the larger Chem-Dry organization, that uses a proprietary Hot Carbonating Extraction method that was proven in a recent independent study to remove an average of 98% of common household allergens from carpets and upholstery and, when a sanitizer was added, an average of 89% of the airborne bacteria.

TNT Chem-Dry Carpet Cleaning Tips

The spots in your carpet keep coming back so you reach for your favorite carpet spot remover. It's the bottle that will remove everything under the sun, so many to choose from at your local store. Maybe you found a great "recipe" online to remove stubborn stains. Maybe you have the advice passed down for years to clean with soap and water. These are stories we hear about everyday in our clients' homes, the dark spots that just won't go away or they disappear for a few weeks then reappear. What is the answer? 1. Do not use these over the counter products excessively, too much product will leave dirt attracting residue and your original spill will seem minor compared to the mess you may create with the soapy spot remover. If you use too much, you may actually remove color from you carpet. A high P-H level can cause damage to your carpet and carpet fibers can only tolerate a certain level of abuse. Wool fibers are even less tolerant. 2. Examine the product you are using. If it claims to remove "everything," that should raise a red flag. Spots in carpet should be put into two categories, water base spills or oil base spills. Is it peanut butter or makeup? Rule of thumb, most food spills will require a water base cleaner. Makeup, oils, grease, gum, tar,or lotion will require a solvent based cleaner. You should have two different spot removers in your cabinet, not one that fixes everything. 3. The "home recipes" found on-line can be very harmful on your carpet with a high chance of creating a permanent stain, creating color loss, or even delaminating the backing of your carpet creating a week spot or even a hole in your carpet over time. I have seen the results of the home recipes and not once has it been good. What about using vinegar as a cleaner for carpet? Vinegar is very acidic and it can actually delaminate and weaken the glue that holds the backing of the carpet. The glue becomes brittle and over time turns to dust, now you have a loose spot in the carpet. TNT Chem-Dry has a product we have been selling for many years and it is by far our most popular product with our repeat clients. It is called the World Famous Spot Remover. This product is similar to our cleaning solution we use when we clean carpet. It cleans with the use of carbonation--think of it as a super charged club soda. No soap, no odor, a neutral P-H so it is completely safe for even the most delicate fiber, and it works for all water base spills. We even recommend it for upholstery and your laundry. The World Famous Spot Remover is a Green Certified product by the EPA. We also sell our World Famous Grease and Oil Remover for the oil base spots in your carpet and our World Famous Pet Odor Remover designed for the pet urine accidents that you can immediately catch. It is great solution in between your professional cleanings. Even with these great products some spots may not be removed (they are stains). It just depends on what the spots are and if your carpet still has any stain fighting ability with an active scotch guard protectant (it wears off over time and should be reapplied yearly if you have high traffic on your carpet). We can refesh the protectant with our Stain Fighter Cleaning Package. Our products will not damage your carpet or upholstery, will not leave a dirt attracting residue, and they are safe for your family and pets.
